Photo etched lapel pins have a very similar look and feel than cloisonné lapel pins but for a more affordable price. These types of pins are made using a combination of photography and chemical science. They have great advantage for color because of their thinner metal plate which is perfect for etching. An epoxy coat can also be applied for better protection.

Unlike previous methods, photo etching is a "chemical" process where the designs are transferred on a brass metal base. this process enables high detailed designs and significantly reduces the thickness of the material. this method is generally applied on larger designs and also has a lower cost compared to the previous processes.

Photo etching is for flat designs only, the lapel pins may be soft enamel with a standard thickness of 0.8mm. They can also include platings like gold, silver, nickel, black nickel, copper, brass and others.

Photo etched lapel pins can also include an additional process such as sanding, pad printing, laser engraving and photo engraving. A clear epoxy coating can be applied to the surface to protect the enamel from color fading and cracking.
